Program 301 - Leading / Managing Change
Program 301 Leading/Managing Change
Program
meets once per week
4 Instruction Modules Will Be Covered In 12
Three Hour Sessions
1. Leadership and Consulting Skills
The first module of
this program concentrates on leadership and consulting skills for
managing change at the boundaries of firms and in their cultures to
make them more focused, fast moving, flexible and partner friendly in
the global economy. Cases will cover companies engaging in changes such
as: from functional hierarchies to teams and networks; from
domestic-oriented to a more globalized focus; from closed systems to
alliances and partnerships; from bureaucratic structures to more
customer-driven. Change management tasks of entrepreneurs in moving an
organization from one growth stage to another will also be covered.
2. Evolutionary Management Change and Innovation
In this
module program participants will compare and contrast the
implementation requirements for both revolutionary and evolutionary
change. Discussed and covered in this module will be both sweeping
transformations and incremental innovations. The module will identify
the tools and techniques available to change leaders and change teams,
how to effectively use them, and will also examine how and why their
use differs with each phase of the change process.
3. Anticipating and Overcoming Change Resistance in Management
During
this module, participants will have the opportunity to explore common
consulting interventions as well as the levers managers in various
roles use to create, lead and steer change. Then, the module takes the
participants beyond formal programs to build skills at resolving
dilemmas that occur throughout the change process. Attention will be
given to anticipating and overcoming resistance to change.
4. Managing Effectively the Roles in the Change Process
The
fourth module emphasizes the skills required for the three main roles
in the change process: strategists, who access the need for change and
develop the overall plan; implementers, who design and carry out
specific change tasks, including acting as project managers,
facilitators, or coaches; and recipients, who must cope with the
implications of change initiated elsewhere for their own work, career
and rewards. How to be effective in these roles depends on position and
power base, whether change agents are authorized leaders, internal
consultants, external consultants or corporate entrepreneurs who take
initiative to innovate.
